Emma Dench is a Chair Professor of classics and ancient history at Harvard University. Before taking up a joint appointment at Harvard in 2007 , she taught at University of London . She has been a Fellow at the University of Oxford, British School of Rome, the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, a Visiting Professor at Harvard, and a Loeb Classical Li brary Foundation Fellow.

While at Harvard, Dench received Outstanding Professorship in contributions to undergraduate teaching, mentoring, and advising a Marquand Award for Excellent Advising and Counseling, and an Everett Mendelsohn Excellence in Mentor ing Award for her mentorship of graduate students. Dench is the author of From Barbarians to New Men , and she is currently completing Imperialism and Culture in the Roman World She got DPhil in Ancient History at St. Hugh's College, Oxford.
